Barcelona is the capital city of the Spanish province Catalonia and the second most populous city in Spain. Barcelona is an international business and economic centre and the fourth most economically powerful city by gross GDP in the European Union. The city is known to be a hotspot for tourists, fashion and congresses.

Climate

Barcelona enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with short cool winters and hot summers. The location of the city besides the sea increases the humidity level. Generally, it rains with more intensity during the spring and autumn. In September and October, the thunderstorms are frequent. Mostly in sunny autumn days in October, the temperatures are very nice during the day decreasing at night.

Currency

The official currency in Spain is the Euro (€). You can exchange your currency without any limits for the total amount at all banks as well as many exchange offices in Barcelona.

AIRPORT AND ARRIVAL INFORMATION

The airport “Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport” is located 12 km southwest of the city. It takes approximately 20-25 minutes by car to the city centre. There is a free bus shuttle between the two terminals T1 and T2.

To arrange your transport from Barcelona airport to your hotel or to the conference venue (approx. 20 – 30 min.) you can choose between different options: public airport transfer, taxi or private transfer.

  • TAXI
    To take a taxi into the city, please look for the signs for the nearest taxi stand when leaving the arrival halls. An average journey by taxi from the Barcelona Airport to downtown takes about 20-40 minutes and costs around € 29,00. The minimum fare from the airport is € 20.

Public taxi service is available 24/7, the rates change depending on the schedule. Airport taxi ranks are located in front of the entrance doors of Terminal 1 and 2 of Barcelona airport.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

  • AIRPORT BUS
    The blue Aerobus takes you every 5-10 minutes from the airport to the city center (e.g. Plaça d’Espanya or Plaça de Catalunya) in about 20-30 minutes. The bus stops at both terminals, line A1 at terminal T1 and line A2 at terminal T2. Both buses stop at the same stops in the city. One-way tickets cost you € 5,90, return- tickets € 10,20. You can buy a ticket on the bus itself.

  • SUBWAY
    The Metro line L9 connects the airport (both terminals) with Barcelona city. It takes about 30 minutes and leaves every 7 minutes.   • TRAIN
    The train R2 Nord departs every 30 min at terminal T2 (from terminal T1, first take the free shuttle bus). It stops in the city at Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona Sants Estació and El Prat where you can change to the metro or city buses. One can use the normal public transportation tickets without any surcharge, which can be bought at the entrance of the RENFE gate at the airport.For further information please visit: https://www.renfe.com/es/en

Mobility in Barcelona and its metropolitan area is easy as a result of an ever-more sustainable public transport network – metro, trams, buses and the Catalan government’s city and suburban rail service (FGC) – which prioritises clean energy. The city also has a public bike hire scheme and more than 200 km of bike lanes; a fleet of taxis that includes hybrid and electric vehicles and cabs running on natural gas. It also provides environmentally friendly electric vehicles for hire. You’re sure to find the means of transport that best suits your needs.
